Toronto Part 2 (Extended Edition)
When
we arrived back at Toronto things weren't any better, waves from Lake
Ontario were crashing on the shore and in Downtown people were battling
with high winds, holding on to railings and avoiding debris being blown
around by the 80mph winds. There was talk of patio furniture being blown from the condos high up on the apartment blocks (scary!) and we did later find out that 2 people were sadly killed by falling debris in the city!
We had a 45 minute walk to our hostel which as Sod's Law would have it was into the wind the entire way, not so bad other than the grit sandblasting us (Amy's nail varnish needed reapplying due to gritblast!)
We did seek sanctuary in a Lush shop where Amy bought more things to live in Mike's bag and carried on our way.
The hostel proved very difficult to find but after some help from a local we found our place for the night. It was quite 'arty' but not the best sleep we've ever had, we weren't sad to leave early in the morning to continue our last day (hah!) in Toronto.
The plan was simple; drop big bags into train station, go to the Royal Ontario Museum, visit Ripley's Aquarium and then a relaxed evening meal before catching our 10pm train to Jasper. Upon dropping off our baggage we were notified of a delay to the train... a 21 hour delay! Before even asking we were told we'd be put into a hotel for the night which immediately addressed the only potential issue. We were told more info would be available later so we carried on our day as planned.
Royal Ontario Museum was well worth a visit had kept us entertained for hours, the Dinosaur fossil display was incredible but our favourite was the 10m high Totem Poles
After a quick late lunch stop we headed back to Union Station to find out more about our train delay and hotel - long story short we got put up in a central hotel and our room is on the 21st (!!) floor
After making use of the free facilities (Sauna!) and enjoying our complimentary buffet breakfast we're now enjoying a few hours of downtime before we head to Union Station and finally board our train to Jasper. The journey to Jasper is 4 days / 3 nights long, to say we're excited is an understatement!
Once we're settled in to our AirBnB near Banff (it has a hottub, did we mention that?) we'll post further updates :)
